In February this year, I decided to bring my NetBSD commitment to a whole new level and re-installed my ${DAYJOB} workstation with NetBSD 5.1.2.
Good news is the workstation still runs NetBSD (of course), recently migrated to 6.0_BETA2 (soon RC1), and I have no plan to change it so far. It is fast, stable, has 2D and 3D acceleration (thanks to the radeon(4) driver and DRM), I can even play games with my collegues (ioquake3 and friends).

Voici un minuscule exemple d’utilisation de fabric: Vérifier l’état des disques de plusieurs machines en RAID1.
On importe tout d’abord les .py nécessaires, et on s’assure qu’on utilise un shell compatible sur tous les systèmes :

Le tuning X11 peut parfois s’avérer pénible, surtout lorsque l’on constate des résultats étranges tels de des trainées de fenêtres sur l’écran, des pixels clignotants, ou encore que ce !@#!@#!@# de DRI refuse de prendre en charge votre carte graphique.
Ainsi, je vous livre en pâture ce fichier /etc/X11/xorg.conf qui me permet de faire tourner une ATI Radeon 3000 (0x9616, carte intégrée à ma station de travail à ${DAYJOB}) sous NetBSD 6.0_BETA2 et son tout nouveau Xorg 1.10.3:

Il y a deux façons pour utiliser compiz avec Xfce4: l’une est dégueulasse et destinée aux feignants, elle consiste à coller un compiz --replace dans l’autostart de Xfce. Non, non et non.
L’autre solution, plus standard, passe par l’utilisation du fichier ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml de façon élégante. On remplace simplement:
Mes machines NetBSD passent doucement mais sûrement toutes en 6.0_BETA2. La migration est peu douloureuse, mais je vous propose tout de même une petite piqure de rappel:
Le set modules étant installé, vous pouvez éventuellement réinstaller un noyau -GENERIC modulaire, puisque nous avons réalisé cette mise à jour via un noyau -MONOLITHIC
